Nari Maitree (NM) – meaning women’s solidarity – a non-governmental and non-profit voluntary development organization founded in 1983 by a small group of female activists with a mission to empower the disadvantaged and  vulnerable women, adolescents  and children  characterized  by  rural  and urban poor, slum and  pavement dwellers, street, hotel and brothel based sex workers and their children, child laborer and persons with disability including ethnic minority groups for establishing their rights in the family and as well as in the society.

Gradually Nari Maitree has grown up as one of the leading national NGOs, being registered under NGO Affairs Bureau and Dept of Women Affairs, GOB, Nari Maitree’s need-based and rights-based programming focuses on integrated participatory community development in the field of Non-formal Education, Skill Development Training, Youth and women employment Generation,   Health and Family Planning, Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Trafficking against women and children, HIV-AIDS, Micro-Credit, Human Rights and Empowerment, Gender development, Eradication of Hazardous Child labourer etc. Nari Maitree covered as many as 43 wards of Dhaka City Corporation including 12 villages of Demra Thana. Besides, it covered as many as 28,00, 000 disadvantaged children, women and adolescents of Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrakona, Tangail, Tongi, Kishoreganj, Sherpur, Cox’s Bazar, Comilla, Feni and Chandpur districts.
